Want to understand how markets move, businesses grow, and policies shape the economy? The Business Economics major combines real-world business acumen with the core principles of economics to prepare students for impactful careers in business, banking, public policy, and beyond.
Our curriculum blends economic theory with applied business concepts like financial analysis, forecasting, research, and pricing strategy. With a strong emphasis on quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills, this program also provides an excellent foundation for students pursuing graduate degrees in public administration, business administration, or law.
Business Economics students gain hands-on research experience by developing and presenting original work at the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank and the College of Business’ annual Research Forum. They also collaborate with faculty to produce the Regional Economic Analysis of Louisiana (REAL) Report, a quarterly publication offering insight into statewide and regional economic trends. Compiled in part by students in the Regional Economic Analysis course (ECON 425), this report gives undergraduates valuable experience in economic modeling, data science, and statistical analysis.
Graduates of the program are equipped with the knowledge and tools to support economic development, craft smart policy, and lead organizations that make data-informed decisions in a rapidly changing world.
