Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind (Certificate)

Master non-visual techniques that change lives and teach independence

The graduate certificate in Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind prepares professionals to teach the full spectrum of adaptive skills needed for blind and visually impaired individuals to live independently. This unique program uses the structured-discovery method, emphasizing empowerment, confidence, and real-world experience. Students undergo an immersive quarter at the Louisiana Center for the Blind (LCB), learning braille, cane travel, assistive technology, home management, and industrial arts — all under blindfold, side by side with LCB students. Additional training in Orientation and Mobility and Braille ensures a comprehensive foundation in non-visual instruction and instructional design. Students also have the opportunity to pursue the National Certification in Unified English Braille (NCUEB) and remain for an additional semester to complete requirements for the National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC). No prior teaching experience is required, just a passion for helping others achieve independence and thrive.
