Art (MFA)

Develop a clear artistic vision and build a professional practice rooted in creativity and craft.

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Louisiana Tech University is a NASAD-accredited 60-hour terminal degree designed for artists and designers ready to deepen their practice and define their creative voice. Students concentrate in one of three areas — Graphic Design, Photography, or Studio Art — with opportunities to explore a range of disciplines including painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, digital media, and mixed media.

The program is highly individualized, with each student assigned a private studio space to support focused, independent work. Graduate study centers on intensive studio practice, critical inquiry, and conceptual development. Students engage in regular one-on-one mentorship with faculty, participate in rigorous group critiques, and take part in seminars that challenge them to consider the broader cultural and theoretical context of their work.

What sets this program apart is its commitment to both artistic growth and professional development. Students are encouraged to push boundaries, refine their ideas, and build a body of work that reflects their personal direction and creative ambition. For those pursuing a career as a practicing artist, designer, or educator, the MFA at Louisiana Tech offers the structure, space, and support needed to advance both studio work and critical dialogue.
