Scientific Visualization (Minor)

Bridge the Gap Between Art and Science Through Visual Communication

The Minor in Scientific Visualization is designed to equip students in science and engineering with essential art and visual communication skills. This interdisciplinary program enhances students' ability to communicate scientific concepts through visual media while offering hands-on experience in their specific field of study. Students will complete 21 credit hours of art-related coursework, which includes foundational studio art, portfolio development, and a discipline-specific internship with a client in a science or engineering field. During the internship, students will apply their skills to illustrate concepts, data, and processes relevant to their area of study. This minor is a collaborative effort among the College of Applied and Natural Sciences, the College of Engineering and Science, and the College of Liberal Arts, and provides a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between art and science. Special topics courses offer students the chance to explore the intersection of these disciplines in depth. The program is open to students from all majors but is especially suited for those pursuing a degree in science or engineering. Upon completion, students will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in their chosen major and a minor in Scientific Visualization. The work produced may form part of a professional portfolio and has the potential to be published in scientific journals, reports, or textbooks.
